On the western side of the island of Rhodes, approximately 20 kilometres from the airport, you will find the lush green valley home to thousands of butterflies. The Valley of the Butterflies (Petaloudes) is a unique biotope that houses a species of butterflies called the Kalimorfa Butterfly. These butterflies reproduce from May to September and are noted for their white, brown, black and red colours.
The Valley of the Butterflies allows visitors to explore nature’s beauty in a quiet and peaceful setting. The site is arranged in a beautiful serene setting with a small river, wooden bridges, stone steps and a path leading up to the Monastery of the Village Kalamonas. The park provides a refreshing escape on a hot summer’s day where visitors can walk for hours under the shade of the trees. There is also a restaurant with tables overlooking a waterfall and a bubbling stream where visitors can enjoy delicious snacks and rest their feet after exploring the vast park
